HVAC Duct Test

Air leakage testing of ventilation and air-conditioning ductwork in commercial buildings — to cut energy losses and meet design standards.

What is a duct test

Leaky ductwork is one of a building's biggest hidden costs: fans consume more energy, conditioned air is lost into ceilings and shafts, and untreated air bypasses filtration.

During the test, a duct section is sealed, a Retrotec DucTester applies the design pressure and precisely measures the leakage flow. The result is expressed as an airtightness class (ATC 1–7 / A, B, C, D) — exactly the figure required by the design, the supervisor or a certification scheme.

Who needs this test

Business centers and retail buildings
Hotels and healthcare facilities
Industrial and warehouse buildings
Projects pursuing LEED / BREEAM certification
General contractors before handover

How the test works

Section preparationIsolating the test section — temporarily capping openings.
DucTester connectionConnecting the unit to the duct and setting the design pressure.
Leakage measurementMeasuring the leakage flow and determining the airtightness class.
Localization & reportFinding leak points with a fog generator if needed; detailed report.

What you receive

  • Official airtightness class determination (ATC / A, B, C, D)
  • Measured leakage figures compared against design requirements
  • Leak localization and remediation recommendations
  • Report compliant with EN 12237 / EN 1507 / EN 16798
